In September 2006, there will be
a group of 9 students from Bastyr University and one naturopathic doctor who
will be traveling to Kenya as volunteers with Village Volunteers, a
non-profit organization located in Seattle, Washington. This organization
works in partnership with village and orphan programs to assist in the
achievement of sustainable development. Through cross-cultural
collaboration, international volunteerism, and program assistance, Village
Volunteers assists in building long-term solutions for community survival,
education and growth.
Our project through Village Volunteers honors the work
and legacy of Chris Halperin, a Bastyr University student who was dedicated
to serving people in need in Western Kenya. Tragically, Chris died weeks
before his graduation as a naturopath and acupuncturist and was unable to
continue his work. In honor of his commitment, our team will be providing
needed medical care and resources to children and families with HIV in
villages in Kenya for the month of September 2006. In addition to providing
free medical care and conducting workshops on nutrition, health maintenance,
and organic farming techniques in each of the villages, we will be traveling
to Kiminini, Kenya, where four Bastyr students dedicated a clinic in honor
of Chris Halperin, last year.
Your donation to our project in Kenya would have a
significant impact in an area of the world that has been hit
disproportionately hard by HIV and AIDS. Through the alliance of Bastyr
University and a consortium of medical supply and supplement company donors,
the team hopes to further the vision of integrative treatment in primary and
critical public healthcare in Kenya.
It will cost our group collectively, $35,000. Your
donation towards our goal would be most appreciated.
All donors will be thanked publicly at a presentation
at Bastyr University upon our return as well as receive calendar with photos
of our trip.
We would truly appreciate your assistance in helping us
provide the gift of compassionate care in an area plagued by poverty and
disease. Donations in support of our project in Kenya will be forwarded to
Village Volunteers, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Tax ID #20-0342019.
