After all of the chaos, anxiety, despair, confusion and isolation of the past year (2020), and after making so many long serious posts, I thought it was about time for some positive, lighthearted, hopeful material. The information and video below is how I first discovered Permaculture. What do Permaculture and gardens have to do with naturopathic medicine? In my opinion, everything.

"All of the world's problems can be solved... in a garden" (Geoff Lawton)

I love this quote. I have personally seen gardens help with mental and physical illness, bring warring neighbors together, create community, create hope in people who are feeling isolated and depressed, and return life to damaged land. I have seen gardens bring bees and wildlife back to areas that were previously abandoned. I have seen gardens mitigate both flooding and erosion.

This is the original 2007 video about the first Greening the Desert project near the Dead Sea in Jordan. This story still gives me goosebumps, even after watching it dozens of times, even after all these years. Whenever I am feeling despondent about the state of the world, I watch some permaculture videos, and remember that when working with nature, so many things can be turned around. I invite you to watch this uplifting 5 min video.

If you are intrigued, there is a whole website about this project:
